Travel Preparation

Entry & Visa

Entering Egypt is straightforward once you know the key formalities in advance.

Visa
A visa is generally required to enter Egypt. Please check the currently applicable requirements before you travel.
Airport Procedure
Once you have completed the entry formalities, proceed to border control with your travel document, visa and the required entry paperwork.
Validity of Travel Documents
Your passport or identity card must remain valid for at least six months after your planned departure from Egypt. Be sure to check the current requirements before you travel.
Identity Card
According to the information available to us, travellers entering with an identity card additionally need two biometric passport photos for the special entry card. Please check the current official requirements before you travel.

We're happy to discuss any entry-related questions with you personally. Contact us on WhatsApp (opens in a new tab)

Travel Preparation

Medication

If you take medication regularly, it's worth preparing well before travelling to Egypt.

Prescription Medication
Bring prescription medication in sufficient quantity and, where possible, in its original packaging. A medical certificate or medication plan can be helpful when entering the country.
Information from the ADAC
Guidance on bringing medication, along with a corresponding form, is available from the ADAC.
Controlled Substances
Medication that falls under controlled-substances law requires special documentation. According to the information available to us, you need a medical certificate, which must then be certified by the relevant health authority. Please clarify the current requirements with your doctor and the relevant authorities well in advance.
Medical Hand Luggage
Important medication belongs in your hand luggage. If you need to carry additional medical hand luggage, please arrange this with your airline in advance.

You can find the complete form and further information from the ADAC here. View ADAC Information (German) (opens in a new tab)

Travel Preparation

Health

A few simple rules can help you stay healthy during your holiday.

Drinking Water
Don't drink tap water, and use sealed bottled water for brushing your teeth wherever possible.
Food
Pay attention to freshness and hygienic preparation when it comes to food. With ice cubes, make sure they were made from suitable drinking water.
Stomach and Digestive Issues
If you experience stomach or digestive issues, make sure to stay well hydrated. For more severe or persistent symptoms, seek advice from a doctor or pharmacy.
Travel First-Aid Kit
A small travel first-aid kit with remedies for stomach and digestive issues can be a good idea. Get advice from a pharmacy beforehand.
Travel Insurance
Before you travel, check whether your overseas health insurance provides adequate cover for you and any family members travelling with you in Egypt.
Medical Assistance at Your Hotel
Many hotels can arrange a doctor if needed or have a medical point of contact on site.

Travel Preparation

Water Shoes

A small but important piece of kit for your excursions to and into the Red Sea.

Why We Recommend Them
Water shoes can be helpful when entering the water over stones, and on beaches with shells, dead coral fragments or other sharp-edged objects.
Marine Life
Keep your distance from sea urchins, lionfish and other marine life, and don't touch them.
Hot Sand
The sand on the beach can get very hot in the sun.
Coral
Coral can have sharp edges and shouldn't be touched in any case.

On our excursions, we provide snorkelling masks and fins free of charge if needed. Discover Our Snorkelling Tours

Travel Preparation

Clothing

The right clothing makes a difference — depending on where you happen to be.

At the Hotel
Light holiday clothing is customary in hotel and pool areas. Sunbathing without a bikini top should be avoided out of consideration for staff and other guests.
Public Areas
Dress is generally relaxed in Hurghada's tourist areas. Outside the hotel complexes and in less touristy areas, however, more modest clothing is advisable.
Mosques
When visiting a mosque, the body should be covered respectfully. Depending on the mosque, women should cover their arms and legs; suitable clothing may be provided or available to borrow on site.
Temples
At temples and historical sites, clothing that covers the shoulders and knees is appropriate.

Travel Preparation

Tipping

Tipping is part of everyday life in Egypt — here's a quick overview of what to keep in mind.

Tipping Culture
Tipping is customary in Egypt and an important extra source of income for many workers. The amount is, of course, entirely up to you.
Recommended Currencies
Small notes in Egyptian pounds or US dollars are especially practical.
Supporting Service Staff
Tipping helps support guides, drivers, hotel staff and other service workers who accompany you throughout your trip.
Euro Coins
Euro coins are often difficult to exchange locally, or only at a loss. Small notes are therefore usually more useful.
